brian packham

Brian Packham was born and raised in Cockeysville, Maryland. He began his musical studies at the age of nine, with his first compositions appearing shortly after he began formal instruction. He went on to the preparatory division of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, focusing on piano, theory, and composition. At the Berklee College of Music he studied composition with John Bavicchi and piano with Stephanie Plsek. He received two scholarships and was the first student to win the school-wide Wind Ensemble Composition Competition two years in a row, in 1984 and 1985.

Since graduating cum laude from Berklee, Brian has had his music performed by a wide variety of performers and ensembles throughout the Americas, including the Baltimore Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, Kalamazoo Symphony, Camerata Bariloche (Argentina), Kamloops Symphony (B.C.), Sinfonietta Nova (NJ), Present Music (WI), Milwaukee Children's Chorus, Duquesne University Wind Ensemble, the U.S. Naval Academy Percussion Ensemble, Paramount Brass, Boston Brass, the MIT Concert Band, the Brookline Symphony, and the Arlington–Belmont Chamber Chorus. The CBC Radio Network and National Public Radio have also featured his music.
